What is the biggest difference between the Major and Minor Prophets?

The Prophet Amos

The Prophet Amos

Length. Seriously, the only real difference between the prophetic books is their length. Accordingly, the Major Prophets are longer & the Minor prophets are shorter. That’s it, period! The division of the prophetic books into Major & Minor is a latter addition. The distinction has nothing to do with importance. As if to say these are the ‘Important Prophets’ & these are the ‘Unimportant Prophets.’ No, in fact, in the Hebrew bible all the prophets are simply lumped in to one section called the ‘Nebim’ or Prophets. (the Hebrew distinction of Former & Latter has to do with book order & not chronological order) This analogy is a little crude, but you could divide them simarly by saying the 4 ‘Longer-winded Prophets & the 12 ‘Shorter-winded Prophets.’ Or you could just put all of them together & call them the Prophets.

What is the Advent season all about?

Traditionally the church sets apart the 4 Sundays before Christmas as the Advent Season. During this season, we turn our attention to the promised Advents or ‘comings’ of Christ. Where as Elders are called to oversee and provide direction for the church, Deacons are called specifically to serve the church-to be the hands that make the church & her ministries happen… Continue Reading…

What did Jesus teach about marriage?

007I always hear people primarily describe Jesus as a good person, a man who went around doing kind deeds and showing compassion. However, what we tend to forget is that Jesus was also a teacher. The witnesses we have of his life describe him as a preacher who preached & taught the ways of God to us. In other words, Jesus not only did wonderful things, but he also had something to say. I would guess most people would say they admire Jesus, but at the same time they are totally clueless on what he had to say. This is so disingenuous. Let’s be real. Let’s not only examine what Jesus did, but let’s open our ears to what he was trying to tell us as well.

Well, what did Jesus teach about marriage? When asked about marriage & divorce, this is what Jesus said in Mark 10:6-9…
