In Memory of Grandma, Louise Cobb Whitlow (July 31, 1917-May 12, 2009)

A giant has fallen. My grandmother, Louise Whitlow died today at 12:30 pm. I was so blessed to witness her final victory as the angels came to carry her to the bosom of Abraham (Luke 16:19-31). As she breathed her last breath there came a holy silence in the room. We wept tears of sadness but more profoundly we cried tears of joy & gratitude to God for her life. I also found myself weeping tears of petition…asking God to let her spirit fall upon me. Oh that God would grant her zeal & love for God to be passed on to me & my children… Continue Reading…

Bryan Dawley’s Senior Recital

A BIG shout out & congratulations goes to Bryan Dawley. His Senior Recital was Friday, February 13, 2009 at Shepherd University. He pretty much rocked it. I’ve know Bryan since he started coming to fire escape, our youth group. He’s been a vital part of our lives & ministry ever since. Below are some picts…enjoy.

In Memory of Faye Holdren

Faye Holdren passed away this Sunday, Feb 8, 2009. She leaves a wonderful legacy. Faye genuinely loved the Lord, she dearly loved Bill, her husband of 48 years & she loved her family.

Faye Holdrens are rare these days. As a Pastor, I know. I want to personally thank her for being a long-term church member-well over 10 years. Do you realize how many changes our church has gone through over the years?-we’ve had staff changes, music ministers have come & gone, we’ve moved locations, we’ve lost people, we’ve added people, we’ve added services, we’ve sold land, we’ve bought land, we’ve dreamed dreams, on & on. And yet, Faye has been here through it all. Wow! In an age of lightly held allegiances, Faye held on. Praise the Lord!

We celebrated her life at our church Wednesday, February 11th.

In Memory of Steven Archer

I was Camp Director for Triple-C-Ranch when I first met the Archer kids, Christine & Steven. That was over 10 years ago. Steven has worked the past 2 summers with us as a counselor extraordinaire, receiving the Most Valuable Counselor Award. Unexpectedly, Steven died last Monday, February 2, 2009. His heart just stopped while playing a pickup game of basketball at UNC where he was a sophomore. He was just shy of turning 20.

We had his memorial service at our church Monday, February 9. It was truly a wonderful experience, as we thanked God for his goodness, remembered Steven & comforted one another.

The Archer family is our family & they will remain in our thoughts & prayers.
